Officer Gillum was shot and killed while attempting to serve a warrant on a suspected bootlegger. He was survived by his wife.

Patrolman Sanders was killed in an aircraft accident while on duty. The plane crashed as a result of heavy fog and rain.

Officer Todd was killed when he was stabbed at a wedding party. He was off duty and was attending the wedding party when an uninvited guest arrived and began a fight. He attempted to intervene and was stabbed.

Deputy Usher was shot and killed as he and the sheriff attempted to serve a warrant. The lawmen were met with gunfire when they arrived at the scene and Deputy Usher was killed. The sheriff was able to return fire and kill the suspect.

Sheriff Roach was shot and killed by a former deputy who was upset that he was not appointed to another term by the sheriff. The former deputy, after learning that other deputies had been sworn in on the first day of the circuit court session, went to the sheriff's office and confronted him. After a brief argument the former deputy retrieved his pistol from a safe. As the sheriff took a step towards him he was shot several times and killed.

The suspect was taken to a jail in a neighboring city to prevent a mob from attacking him. A grand jury indicted him for murder.

Trooper McNeely drowned while participating in a flood rescue mission in Franklin County, Kentucky.

Trooper McNeely had been with the agency for 16 years and was survived by his wife and daughter.
